The role

This is an excellent opportunity to join our busy construction team as an Apprentice Site Supervisor, initially on our flagship project in Liverpool, but eventually working throughout the north west.

Your role will be to assist the site and project manager in managing all aspects of the construction project ensuring health and safety standards are met, quality standards are met and the construction programme is adhered to. In doing this you will also be assisting the site team maintain and control the financial aspects of the project. You will also be assisting the Site Engineer in ensuring the setting out and technical information in the ground is correct.

You will be attending Liverpool John Moores University one day a week throughout your apprenticeship programme, you must meet the minimum entry requirements and secure a place on the course. The other 4 days a week you will have the opportunity to work in a mixture of departments ensuring exposure to Health and Safety, Planning, commercial and technical areas of the business. This will predominantly be on site which will involve working outdoors whatever the weather with some physical activity involved. Once qualified you have the opportunity to secure the role of Assistant Site Manager with excellent prospects to progress into a site manager role and beyond. There are also many other routes to progress within the business depending on the individual’s skill set.

 

The right fit

  • You must meet the minimum entry requirements and gain acceptance onto the LJMU BSc (Hons) Construction Management Degree Apprenticeship programme as detailed below.
  • Outstanding communication skills.
  • Ability to build effective relationships.
  • Comfortable to work towards obtaining First Aid at Works certificate.
  • Comfortable to work towards obtaining CSCS Card.
  • Comfortable to work towards obtaining SSSTS or SMSTS Qualification.
  • Comfortable to work towards obtaining Basic Scaffold Inspection qualification.

 

Entry Requirements

GCSE’s and equivalents:

Prior to starting the programme applicants must have obtained Grade C or Grade 4 or above in English Language and Mathematics GCSE or an approved alternative qualification below:

  • Key Skills Level 2 in English/Maths
  • NVQ Level 2 Functional skills in Maths and English Writing and or Reading
  • Skills for Life Level 2 in Numeracy/English
  • Higher Diploma in Maths/English
  • Functional Skills Level 2 in Maths/English
  • Northern Ireland Essential Skills Level 2 in Communication or Application of Number
  • Wales Essential Skills Level 2 in Communication or Application of Number
  • Welsh GCSE Maths Numeracy

A-Levels

  • Minimum number of A Levels required: 2
  • Is general studies acceptable? Yes
  • Average A Level offer: BCC
  • Are AS level awards acceptable? Acceptable only when combined with other qualifications
  • Maximum AS Level points accepted: 20

Applicants studying an HND or Foundation Degree in Construction or Building Studies will be considered for direct entry into Level 2. A HND with Merit Overall or Foundation Degree at 50% overall would be required.
